Just another story

25th April

Started out as a sad day- the pragmatics paper wasn't exactly well done. i didn't have the time to finish doing the entire paper. the first qn (which was the most difficult and hence i attempted it last) was worth 40 marks and i had only 15 mins left to do it! so sad. sigh, but since it's already over, lets just not talk about it anymore. after the exam, i met up with yellow banana for a consultation with dr leong for my history of modern linguistics module. it was a depressing consultation as i found myself not understanding 90% of what yellow banana was asking! (and it turns out that he is asking stuff that's out of the module can!!! make me worry for nothing!) then, the day ended with me going for my P5 tuition in the night. and here's the best part that made my day! i received a little note from one of my kid's mum and here's what she wrote:

" Dear Ms Elsa,

Alex enjoys your class very tremendously. In fact, this is the only class he goes to without complaint. Since attending this class, he is able to write more and hopefully this would improve his compo skills. Please feel free to call me if you need to give me feedback on Alex.

Thanks for everything!"

i was really happy to receive this little note. i know it may seem as nothing to most of you, but to me, this is an encouragement. this is a way of assurance from the parents to tell me that what i am doing in class is helping the kids and that they like my teaching. :)

2nd may
just today, i had another PTM session in the afternoon. two parents came up to me. One said that her daughter enjoyed my lesson very much and she added that she could see that her child's standard of English is improving. man, that feeling was so so so great!

the other parent simply commented that she thinks that i can teach well and have got the potential to be a good teacher! :D

really thank all these parents for their encouragement and assurance given! :D

another thing that made me damn happy today was when i saw the improvement in attitude in one of my p2 boy. this p2 boy has been a little problematic since day 1. he refuses to do his homework, hand in rubbish for his compositions by having only 1 sentence as his whole compo (a LONG sentence joined together by the conjunction "and"), acting like a parrot in class by repeating people's nonsensical answers/stupid jokes and by simply refusing to stay quiet in class! However, today, i was very very pleased with his attitude! we did a class composition today and his improvement could be clearly seen! he gave me 4 paragraphs! [though the sentence construction werent quite right (he is quite weak in his English)] and today, we did other worksheets as well. and to my greatest surprise- he can do ALL the questions himself and he was there doing his work without giving me any nonsense! i was so pleased with his performance today that i told his mother about it the moment i saw her after class! haha. and of course, i gave him lots and lots of praise today!

i am truly happy whenever i see my students improving- be it in their attitude or in their work! i guess that is all that a teacher can ever ask for! :D the additional praise and assurance from parents are the bonuses! =D

- a new leather watch!!
- lasik operation! to get rid of having to wear specs/contacts!
- a small sling bag for gai gai and a bag big enough for school
- a shopping spree in HK or Thailand!!
- a pair of birks?
